Prairie Art Book Fair Coming Up in Winnipeg
Winnipeg's Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art is holding the Prairie Art Book Fair from Sept. 9 to Sept. 11.
The fair will feature 15 vendors – including independent artists, art collectives, artist-run groups and publishers from across the Prairies and beyond – who will share an array of printed matter and publication ephemera.
Vendors include BlackFlash Magazine, Border Crossings, Fillip, Gallery 1C03 at the University of Winnipeg, the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the Martha Street Studio and the School of Art Gallery at the University of Manitoba.
The fair, which includes a writing workshop with Saskatoon's Apophony Press and a panel discussion with the Edmonton-based food culture collective, Hungry Zine, is free and open to all.

Meanwhile, the Vancouver Art Book Fair will not go ahead this year, although the fair is providing publicity for independent events during Art Book Month from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31.
Anyone can participate by planning an art book, comics, zine or publishing-related event.
The fair defines an art book as a work of art that uses the form of a book.
"An art book is interactive, portable, movable and easily shared. It focuses on publishing as an artistic medium, often produced in small editions or as a one-of-a kind project."
The deadline for submissions is Sept. 15. For info, go here.
