Prairie Art Book Fair Goes Digital
The Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art in Winnipeg is holding a digital version of its Prairie Art Book Fair this month.
The fair takes place in two parts – as a series of online readings, workshops and other events from Sept. 11 to Sept. 13 and as webpages compiling a selection of artists, writers and publishers from the Prairies and beyond.
Highlights include publications from ARP Books, Blank Cheque Press, Candor Arts, Cedar Eve, Jonathan Dyck, Katrina Marie Mendoza, Metonymy Press, New Gallery, Or Gallery, Peripheral Review, Red Rising Magazine, Sylvia Matas, The Third Rail, Whess Harman and Zinnia Naqvi.
Online events running from Sept. 11 to Sept. 13 include an art book "show and tell" with Toronto-based writer Cason Sharpe and a self-publishing workshop by Carnation, a submission-based zine based in Winnipeg.
There's also a reading of Noopiming: The Cure for White Ladies by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, a Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg writer; a workshop with writers Yaniya Lee and Fan Wu; and a screening and discussion about Nigerian filmmaker Dafe Oboro’s A beautiful struggle.
