PUBLIC ACCESS TO RESEARCH TREASURETROVE
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Esplanade Archives and Esplanade Museum are proud to announce that they have acquired a subscription to the research service, JSTOR. They are now providing the public with access to this resource at no cost.
It has been said that we live in an information age and if that is true then research is its defining activity. To do their work thoroughly researchers need access to trustworthy sources. JSTOR, short for journal storage, is a not-for-profit service which allows entry to a trusted archive of more than a thousand scholarly journals. This service is now available to the citizens of Medicine Hat and district at the Esplanade Archives and there is no charge!
The Esplanade Museum and Esplanade Archives obtained a subscription to this service so that their staff could do a better, quicker job of researching the many topics they study to develop their exhibits, displays and programs. Their subscription provides entry to international scholarly journals in the arts and sciences, the life sciences and business. JSTOR databases allow full-text searches of more than 300,000 articles in over 50 disciplines totaling more than 37 million pages of information.
As part of the Esplanade, the Museum and Archives are public facilities of the City of Medicine Hat. Their members and volunteers, as well as students, professors, medical professionals, business people and journalists; any one doing research in any of the fields covered by the journals is now free to start their searches. You are welcome to begin by visiting the public access computers in the Esplanade Archives Monday to Friday 10 AM-12 Noon and 1 PM- 5 PM. Remember there is no charge, although donations are welcome and we would appreciate a telephone call or email in advance.
