Quebec collective BGL to represent Canada in Venice
The Quebec artists’ collective BGL, composed of Jasmin Bilodeau, Sébastien Giguère and Nicolas Laverdière, will represent Canada at next year’s Venice Biennale.
The collective is known for ambitious sculptures and mixed-media installations that have drawn critical interest over the last decade. BGL was chosen by a national selection committee and will work with curator Marie Fraser, a professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal.
“We take genuine pleasure in breaking out of the traditional framework in which art is experienced in order to bring the human being and art closer together and to give the alert, unsettled spectator a physical and active experience,” says BGL.
