RBC Emerging Artists has made a $1.7-million donation to the Vancouver Art Gallery.
The funding will go toward mentorship and leadership opportunities for the next generation of Canadian artists. It will also go toward the new Vancouver Art Gallery, estimated to open in 2028.
The RBC Emerging Artist Program will become part the Vancouver Art Gallery’s programming and will support artists in British Columbia as they move from education to full-time employment.
“RBC Emerging Artists exemplifies the gallery's mission to support, nurture and promote the next generation of British Columbian artists," Anthony Kiendl, CEO and executive director of the Vancouver Art Gallery, said in a news release.
“This gift marks RBC’s largest donation to the arts and is a significant milestone in RBC’s long-standing support of the gallery’s public programs,” said Martin Thibodeau, RBC's regional president, British Columbia.
“RBC Emerging Artists is helping artists bridge the gap from emerging to established in their art form. These voices are important to building inclusive, vibrant communities, and strong economies.”
