The Remai Modern opens Rebecca Belmore: Facing the Monumental on Feb. 1.
The exhibition is organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario, where it was shown last year from July to October.
Belmore's art has brought attention to themes including state violence and Indigenous sovereignty for more than 30 years and she has represented Canada on the world stage, including the Venice Biennale.
The exhibition, which includes work in performance, video, sculpture and installation, runs until May 5.
The Saskatoon iteration includes several new pieces, including Freeze, a sculpture dedicated to the memory of Neil Stonechild, a Saulteaux First Nations teenager who died of hypothermia in Saskatoon after being picked up by police.
It's the first time this piece, to be installed outdoors, has been shown on the Prairies.
Activities around the exhibition include a free conversation series with the Remai Modern’s Indigenous relations advisor, Lyndon J. Linklater, and his guests, including Saskatoon Police Chief Troy Cooper on Feb. 5.
On March 1, artists Lori Blondeau and Jeneen Frei Njootli will join forces for the first time in a performance that responds to Facing the Monumental.
The exhibition is also accompanied by workshops, films and readings.
