Remembering Brent Boechler
Vancouver-based artist Brent Boechler passed away peacefully on September 21, 2015 at the age of 52, surrounded by the love and support of his fiancée Christina and his family.
Brent Boechler was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1963. Since 1991, he has held over 30 solo exhibitions and group exhibitions across Canada. A self-taught artist who worked primarily in acrylic on panel and mixed-media on paper, his work is a multi-strata of brushed, pushed and pulled paint that concerned itself with process as much as with subject.
Of his practice, Brent has stated, “Abstraction is rarely, if ever, purely and resolutely abstract ... the line separating figure and ground is diffused; it is not absolutely sublimated. The Figure resides in an encounter in a living and shifting environment, and within that is a sense of prelude of what is ahead.”
His work is found in numerous public, private and corporate collections in Canada, US, Europe and Asia including The Helen & Morris Belkin Art Gallery, Mendel Art Gallery, Children’s Developmental Institute, and Emaar Properties.
Brent will be remembered for his immense talent and contributions to the artistic community at home and abroad.
The Bau-Xi Gallery is proud to have represented him all these years and we will miss Brent dearly.
