Renée Williams has been named as the new executive director of the Edmonton Arts Council.
Her first day in the new role will be Nov. 12.
Williams comes to EAC with experience that includes various roles at the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation and Fort Edmonton Park Management Company.
“This significant organization has been serving and supporting artists and our community for 29 years,” Williams said about her new position at EAC.
“I am honoured to step into this role and continue to grow such a foundational pillar of our city.”
Williams volunteered as co-chair of the 2023 Junos Host Committee, and most recently served as the senior vice president of Customer Experience and Product Development at Fort Edmonton Management Company. Before that, she spent nine years at Edmonton Economic Development Corporation/Edmonton Tourism, finishing her time there as director of International Market Development.
Williams takes over her new role from Sanjay Shahani, who led the EAC from July 2016 to March 2024. Shahani is now the director general, strategy and public affairs for the Canada Council for the Arts.
