SASKATCHEWAN TO SEND ARTIST ZACHARI LOGAN TO NEW YORK FOR INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY

Creative Saskatchewan and the MacKenzie Art Gallery are pleased to announce that Saskatoon artist Zachari Logan has been selected to participate in a funded three-month residency at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Brooklyn, New York, in the spring of 2015.

Zachari Logan

Currently residing in Regina, Zachari Logan is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan’s Master of Fine Arts program. Logan works primarily in drawing, ceramics, and installation practices, exploring the intersection between masculinity, identity, memory, and place. His work has been exhibited widely, in group and solo exhibitions throughout North America and Europe. Logan’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon), the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Line Gallery: Centre for Contemporary Canadian Drawing (North Bay, ON), the Leslie-Lohman Museum (New York City) and in many private collections worldwide.

The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) is located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in the former factory of the Sackett & Wilhelms Lithography Company, an 18,000 square foot building constructed in 1901. The building has 35 studios for artists and curators, an exhibition gallery, and a project space. ISCP’s mission is to introduce New York audiences to exceptional international artistic practices, as well as to engage communities in Brooklyn and Greater New York City through public programs. Founded in 1994, ISCP has hosted over 1,900 artists and curators from more than 62 countries. Creative Saskatchewan and the MacKenzie will join other Canadian and international galleries and cultural centers that have sponsored artists to attend the ISCP.

During his three-month residency at ISCP, Logan will focus on the development and creation of new and in-progress works for six upcoming solo exhibitions at commercial galleries in Regina, Toronto, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Seattle, and in Vienna. Artwork will also be created for an upcoming exhibition at the Art Gallery of Regina set to open in October 2015. In New York City, Logan looks forward to engaging with works of art found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick Collection, The Morgan Library & Museum, and the Hudson River Museum.

This spring the MacKenzie Art Gallery, in partnership with the MacKenzie Gallery Volunteers, will embark on a four-day trip to New York City, hosted by Anthony Kiendl, Executive Director & CEO of the MacKenzie. Open to Members of the Gallery, participants will visit Logan’s studio at ISCP in addition to New York City’s landmark museums and attractions including the Frieze Art Fair, Solomon R. Guggenheim, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art.
