Scott Marsden has been hired as the new executive director at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery in central Alberta.
Marsden has worked as the executive director of the Haida Gwaii Museum, curator at The Reach Gallery Museum in Abbotsford, B.C., and the gallery director/curator at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse. He recently finished a contract in the collections program at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife.
He has experience in researching, developing and presenting exhibitions that explore community-based art practices, community narratives and diverse cultural dialogues, as well as in collaborating with artists, art galleries and museums.
Marsden holds a Ph.D. in art education from the University of Victoria and an MFA from York University in Metro Toronto.
He replaces former director Lorna Johnson, who is retiring.
