Artist Alex Fowkes emblazons iconic typography on 5-story building Nelson, BC
Nelson, a small city in the British Columbia Interior, is holding its second annual mural festival from Aug. 16 to Aug. 18.
The festival will see the creation of new murals, including one featuring typography by Alex Fowkes, who is based in Squamish, B.C.
“I want to guide your eyes towards the sky, and all the things you want to do as a person," says Fowkes. "Typography allows me to communicate with both the visual style of the word and its meaning.”
Others participating include Jessa Gilbert, Kevin Ledo, JP Jangois, Matty Kakes and Benji Lowclass.
Festival organizer Sydney Black, the executive director of the Nelson District Arts Council, says the goal is to move culture out of theatres and galleries.
The free festival also features performances and workshops.
