Southern Alberta Art Gallery Hires New Executive Director
The Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge has hired Kristy Trinier as its executive director. Starting June 18, Trinier will replace Ryan Doherty, the director/curator since 2013.
The chair of the gallery's board, Urvil Thakor, described Trinier as "an exceptionally skilled and well-qualified individual" and cited her experience as the director of visual, digital and media arts at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and as the curator of the Art Gallery of Alberta in Edmonton.
"With her international experience in contemporary art and passion for developing the gallery and its supporting community, we are confident that Kristy will take the SAAG to new heights," Thakor said.
Trinier has also worked as the public art director at the Edmonton Arts Council, where she managed the City of Edmonton’s Public Art Collection.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in visual art and English from the University of Victoria, and a Master’s degree in public art from the Dutch Art Institute in the Netherlands. She is currently pursuing doctoral studies in philosophy, art and critical thought at the European Graduate School.
