Stolen Sculpture is Back
Police have found a $24,000 bronze statue stolen Nov. 4 from the doorway of a Vancouver art gallery.
"I am beside myself," Vesna Zaric, manager of the Petley Jones Gallery on Granville Street, told CBC. "I just think it is such wonderful news that something beautiful has happened,"
Security cameras showed a man rolling the statue of a horse and rider away on a dolly.
There were fears it would be melted down and sold for scrap.
Zaric said police told her they recovered the statue from a single-room occupancy hotel downtown.
No suspects have been arrested and the investigation is still underway, police said.
The work, titled After Marino Marini, is by local artist Fahri Aldin. It was on display outside the gallery for nearly two years.
