TD Bank Group has recently announced the appointment of Stuart Keeler as Senior Art Curator. With a wealth of international curatorial experience aligned with a strong background in community engagement, Keeler will oversee the strategic direction of TD's Art Department, as well as the implementation and execution of key initiatives.
Keeler joins TD from a recent period of cultural leadership working at the City of Mississauga, in the Museums as Managing Director and Curator, and as Executive Director and Curator at the Art Gallery of Mississauga, with extensive curatorial and collections management experience. Educated and trained to work in museums and galleries, his career has prominently explored the role of the artist, interculturalism, diaspora issues and art in the public sphere and everyday life.
"We are thrilled to welcome Stuart to the TD Art Department," says Naki Osutei, Director, Partnerships and Engagement, Community Relations and Corporate Citizenship, TD Bank Group. "Art has an incredible power; one that can start a conversation, bringing people and communities together. With Stuart's curatorial background, combined with community engagement experience, he will bring a unique lens to our current and future initiatives."
Stuart will join TD's Art Department, which includes Vanessa Runions, Associate Art Curator, and Alex Kwok, Art Administrator. Vanessa is a trained curator and cultural organizer, with a diverse focus in her professional and independent work in the art community, including accessibility, inclusion and pedagogical practices. Alex brings a wealth of experience as an artist and cultural worker, and is also co-founder of Assembly, a speaker series focusing on contemporary photographic practices.
"Rich in history, TD has been one of the premiere supporters of contemporary Canadian art for decades, and I am honoured to be joining the team," Stuart Keeler, Senior Art Curator, TD Bank Group. "The Canadian art community is going through an evolution, which presents us with a major opportunity to differentiate ourselves and further integrate elements of community engagement, diversity and inclusion into the work we are doing. It's an incredibly exciting time in the industry to be taking on this role and I look forward to all that we will achieve."
