Terry Gregoraschuk is one of nine visual artists chosen to participate in a show commissioned by The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C.
Chosen from more than 380 submissions and 500 images, his work will be part of a project entitled Portraits and will be shown one night only, on June 16 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts.
His painting, Sleep With One Eye Open And Do Not Speak Of It, is part of Gregoraschuk’s TRANS4MATION Series. He created the series after hearing that a member of his family was transgender.
The show is “a nine-movement commission that represents the vibrant spectrum of sexual, gender, racial, ethnic, and cultural identities through visual art, music, and dance,” according to the news release. “Inspired from the imagery of each piece of visual art chosen and the culmination of four years of work, each movement in the production will feature one of nine artworks that will come to life through music, lyrics combined with a choreographed dance routine that will highlight an aspect of a human experience supporting the artist’s original intent. The music and artwork will be combined with a choreographer to create the final visual sensation.”
Gregoraschuk, who lives in Calgary, has won myriad awards for his work, which has been exhibited internationally. His work is found in collections that include Canada Post, Environment Canada, The Royal Tyrrell Museum, The Alberta Foundation for the Arts, The City of Calgary, the Medicine Hat Museum and The Esso Art Collection.
