The Contemporary Art Gallery reaches outside of the gallery walls

In its 41^st year the Contemporary Art Gallery continues to break barriers with collaborations taking contemporary art to the streets of Vancouver.

Nigel Prince, the new Executive Director, arrived last year from England and has made it his mission to expand the gallery outwards to a new and diverse audience. In order to do this he has developed several new initiatives and collaborations.

“Since I arrived, I have seen the CAG less as a place defined by bricks and mortar and more as a transmitter of ideas and activities,” explained Nigel Prince, Executive Director. “Beginning with our offsite projects using Smartphones in 2011 we have begun to develop programming and collaborations around the city. I would encourage Vancouverites to keep their eyes peeled to see where else they encounter us in 2012.”

This new direction for the CAG began with the launch of an offsite commission by Vancouver based artist Ron Tran, A Way to Go followed by the ongoing participatory project Vibrantes, drawing inspiration from Federico Herrero's vivid and dynamic new commission for the façade of the CAG. In 2012 partnerships continue through a series of performances with the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival followed by the launch of a three year programme of offsite projects at the Yaletown-Roundhouse Station, Canada Line in partnership with InTransit BC in February.
