The online edition of Arthur K. Wheelock’s Dutch Paintings of the Seventeenth Century is now live!
This is the first release in what is part of the National Gallery of Art’s ongoing initiative to digitize and provide open access to the museum’s permanent collection catalogues. Future launches will include Italian Paintings of the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Centuries, American Modernism, Italian Paintings of the Sixteenth Century, Renaissance Plaquettes, and French Paintings of the Nineteenth Century.
The creation of NGA Online Editions was made possible by a generous grant from the J. Paul Getty Foundation as part of their Online Scholarly Catalogue Initiative (OSCI). Along with eight other museums, the Gallery was tasked with finding a new way of presenting scholarly information in a fully accessible, user-friendly digital setting. The result is an online environment that is fully integrated with our website and allows specialists and art lovers from all over the world to skim, swim, or dive into our permanent collection.
