The Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists welcomes its new Executive Director

The Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists is pleased to announce the hiring of Astrid Heyerdahl as its new Executive Director.
Astrid Heyerdahl completed her Honours B.A. in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario in 2005, her Masters of Art History in contemporary Canadian Art from the University of Toronto in 2006 and her Masters of Education in Gallery Pedagogy from York University in 2011. Astrid worked with the Chief Conservator of the Guggenheim Foundation at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy in 2007 and while completing her M.Ed. worked with the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto inspiring a new direction for their education department.
After moving to BC, she became the Visual Arts Manager of Coquitlam’s Evergreen Cultural Centre in 2011. She is an active member of the arts community and serves on boards and committees in Vancouver and North Vancouver.
The Smith Foundation has extended its role to include public programming and curating public exhibitions and at the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art. In the words of Mauro Vescera, Smith Foundation Board President, “Astrid is a rising star in the industry and a perfect fit given [the Foundation’s] artistic, curatorial and educational aspirations. Her contribution to the organization will be significant!”
