The New Gallery Remains in Calgary's Chinatown
Calgary artist-run centre The New Gallery says that after five years of occupancy and short-term leases in a storefront in Chinatown’s historic Canton Block it has successfully negotiated a five-year lease with a five-year renewal option, including an expansion into the vacant upstairs suite.
The space needs renovations, one of the gallery's top priorities. It has received $77,000, about half of what's needed, from the Calgary Foundation. Work will be completed in two phases, starting with the main exhibition space during the gallery’s annual closure in August. The upper level will be completed as funds are raised.
