Toronto’s Local Gallery is hosting an exhibition that reimagines the Canadian $20 bill with notable Indigenous women.
The project, which highlights the contributions of Indigenous women, is a partnership with the Native Women's Association of Canada, which is leading a campaign called Change the Bill.
The association says the exhibition, on view until Jan. 28, helps recognize the significant contributions of the Indigenous population, while supporting Indigenous artists.
Prints of the works can be purchased for $20, with all proceeds going to the artists.
"Change The Bill is not just about placing an Indigenous woman on a banknote," said Lynne Groulx, the association's CEO.
"Educating future generations about the contributions of Indigenous women and fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of their significance creates a more just and equitable society for all Canadians."
