TRUCK Contemporary Art in Calgary says it will reopen in late October after more than five months of closure prompted by efforts to overhaul its organizational structure.
The artist-run centre halted operations and programming in April, when both co-directors and several board members resigned.
“We have realized that the amount of labour, emotional capacity and knowledge that restructuring will take is incredibly intensive and time consuming," the centre said in a statement. "Moving too quickly and without proper support systems – as TRUCK has experienced – can lead to lapses in communication, misunderstandings and burnout – leaving no room to ground ourselves in organizational and individual values of antiracism and equity.” Read the full update here.
Steps forward include more flexible hours for staff, outsourcing human resources support and building on the previous co-directorship model.
Information on the gallery's current staff and board is available here.
