Tyler Rock and Julia Reimer finalists for the Ranamok Glass Prize
Glass artists Tyler Rock and Julia Reimer, will be the first Alberta artists to be finalists in a major international art prize, the Ranamok Glass Prize. The finalist’s will be competing for a $15,000 prize and will have their work featured in a traveling exhibition.
The Ranamok prize is considered the premier exhibition and prize for collectors internationally, highlighting work that displays creativity, skill and innovation in contemporary glass. The work presented for consideration for the Ranamok Glass Prize is expected to be a major effort in the artist's personal body of work. This work is innovative, displaying excellence and imagination in contemporary practice. The 2012 Recipient will join previous winners in the Ranamok Winner’s Collection.
As two of Canada’s foremost glass artists, Tyler Rock and Julia Reimer both derive their inspiration from the history and landscape of Canada. Reimer’s current body of work draws from her personal history. Inspired by her memories of time spent in Alberta’s grasslands as a child, she explores how time and development have altered these landscapes from her youth.
Tyler Rock and Julia Reimer have had long careers marked by successes both at home and internationally. Their work can be found in numerous public, corporate and private collections, including the Premier of Alberta, the offices of the Prime Minister in Ottawa, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the collection of Emperor and Empress of Japan. Both currently live in Black Diamond, AB, where they own and operate Firebrand Glass Studio.
The Ranamok exhibition will open at the on August 15th at the Canberra Glassworks where the winner will be announced and travel throughout Australia to Brisbane and Sydney.
