University of Alberta Exhibition Highlights Inuit Art Donation
The late Milton Halvarson, an Edmonton teacher and school-board member, had a lifelong passion for Inuit art.
Halvarson, who died earlier this year, donated 113 works to the University of Alberta Art Collection.
Works from his donation are displayed in A Collector’s Eye: The Halvarson Gift of Inuit Art, on view until Dec. 14.
A Collector’s Eye acknowledges Halvarson’s legacy and also explains the important role all donations play.
“Many of the works of art in this exhibition still need to be researched,” said curator Nadia Kurd. “As a university museum collection, we are able to find out the answers to questions the works of art ask, such as: who is the artist, where did this work of art come from, what is the story behind this object, and others.”
