Vancouver Art Gallery Celebrates Record Year
The Vancouver Art Gallery says more than 600,000 visitors attended its exhibitions and programs over the last fiscal year, a new record.
Two major exhibitions helped boost the numbers – Claude Monet’s Secret Garden and Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg.
“Looking back, this has been, by all accounts, a milestone year for the gallery marked by exceptional programs, record attendance and revenue,” says gallery director Kathleen Bartels.
The gallery engaged with more than 72,000 people through its arts education activities and another 28,000 through its touring exhibitions and activities.
More than 137,000 people received either complimentary or donated admission.
The gallery recorded 240 acquisitions, bringing its collection holdings to nearly 12,000 works.
Total operational revenue of $21.4 million surpassed budgeted expectations by $1.4 million. This included admissions of almost $5 million, memberships (37,000) of $1.25 million, and retail gross sales of $3.9 million.
