Vancouver Art Gallery gets $5 million donation from Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation
The Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation has donated $5 million to the Vancouver Art Gallery, bringing the gallery to more than 85 per cent of its $400 million fundraising target for a new building to open in 2028.
The donation will be used to create the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation Centre, spanning more than 2,400 square feet for education studios, exhibition space and a surrounding terrace offering panoramic views of the cityscape.
“As an architect with a profound appreciation of the arts, I am thrilled to support a project that champions creativity and learning in our great city,” said Hamid Eshghi, Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation president.
Anthony Kiendl, CEO & executive director of the Vancouver Art Gallery, said the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation's support will leave “an indelible mark on Vancouver's artistic landscape.”
The Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation has made philanthropic contributions to such other organizations as the University of British Columbia, BC Children's Hospital and Simon Fraser University.
