The Vancouver Art Gallery has launched a new community program, Art At Any Age: Movement and Making.
Taking place this fall, it is a free series designed by and for seniors, aimed at enriching people’s lives through art by encouraging creativity.
“Each week will offer new ways for seniors to gather at the gallery, from hands-on making to reflective responses facilitated by guest artists,” according to the news release. “The program includes tea-and-tour sessions, meditative experiences and intergenerational workshops, all inspired by the exhibitions on display.”
The new series is organized by the gallery in collaboration with an advisory group of seniors and Dr. Kathryn Ricketts, an education professor at the University of Regina.
“This unique program represents the gallery’s commitment to building communities, championing continuous learning and inspiring a love of art for all ages,” says Anthony Kiendl, the gallery’s CEO and executive director. “These programs will provide an important platform for expression, connection and imagination, which we believe will foster an improved sense of wellbeing and belonging for seniors.”
A second edition of the program is already being planned and is scheduled to take place from January through March 2025.
