Vancouver Art Gallery Offers Tours for Blind Visitors
The Vancouver Art Gallery is offering regular tours for blind and partially sighted visitors the first Saturday of each month.
Gallery educators use innovative visual descriptions to make exhibitions more accessible to those living with varying levels of vision loss.
“The importance and appeal of the visual arts is universal and they are meant to be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of ability,” says Kathleen Bartels, the gallery's director.
The project was launched in cooperation with VocalEye, a non-profit society founded in 2009 to provide greater access to cultural events for people who are blind and partially sighted.
