Vancouver Art Gallery Receives Major Gift for New Building
The Vancouver Art Gallery has received $1.5 million for its new building from Donald Ellis, a Canadian art dealer.
Ellis founded the Donald Ellis Gallery, which has an international presence that includes New York.
As a recognized authority in historical Indigenous art, Ellis has regularly featured as an appraiser of Indigenous art on the PBS, BBC and CBC Antiques Roadshow.
The announcement brings the total raised from the private sector to $86.5 million.
The new building, located at the intersection of West Georgia and Cambie streets, will more than double the current exhibition capacity.
