Vancouver's Capture Photography Festival has eliminated the position of director/curator, held by Kate Henderson, as part of efforts to cope financially during the coronavirus pandemic.
Henderson will continue to work with the festival as guest curator for a public art project to be installed on the Dal Grauer Substation in April 2021.
Henderson, who joined the festival as program manager in 2017, said her time with the festival was "incredibly rewarding" and taught her about being a leader.
"This is certainly not how I pictured my time as director/curator ending, but we are living in a tumultuous present and it is difficult to see what the future will hold," she said. "Many of us arts workers are navigating loss, which is very unsettling. I have learned during this pandemic, and as a new mother, that we must hold on to what matters most — find what brings us joy, love, and community — and hold it close."
