Vernon Public Art Gallery gets Nod at Toronto Film Fest
The documentary, Behind the Mask, has been awarded an honourable mention at the Making a Difference Awards, part of the 2023 Commffest Global Community Film and Arts Festival in Toronto. The film shares the stories of 10 people in Vernon, B.C. and grew out of their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Against the backdrop of widespread mental health challenges, the documentary unfolds as a tale of resilience, bravery, and community support,” according to the news release.
Created in partnership with the Vernon Public Art Gallery, participants included visual artist and facilitator Katie Green; photographer Kelsie Balehowsky; director Heath Fletcher; executive producer Dauna Kennedy; editor Joseph Pinheiro; production coordinator Tricia Cooney; second camera Randi Buerfiend; Turning Points Collaborative's Sarah Lillemo; artists Brock, Cheryl, Freesia, Jason, Jo Anne, Kim, Opi and Rachel; and Sproing Creative.
