Coast Salish artist Dylan Thomas (Qwul’thilum) has been selected as Indigenous Artist in Residence with the City of Victoria.
The residency allows a Victoria artist to create work and engage in community dialogue, workshops and events for a two-year term.
As a member of the Lyackson First Nation, Thomas has heritage from the Songhees, Squamish and Snuneymuxw Nations.
He has a diverse practice ranging from furniture design and sandblasting to wood carving, printmaking, jewelry and new media.
“I hope to use my experience as a Salish artist, my experience as an Indigenous person, and my experience as a lifelong resident of Victoria to create work that meaningfully honours the local Indigenous people – past, present, and future,” says Thomas.
