An exhibition at Canada's embassy in Washington, D.C., that features work by 27 women artists is part an initiative to recognize the diversity of the Canadian art scene.
A New Light: Canadian Women Artists will be on view from Feb. 7 to April 30, includes Western Canadian artists like Amalie Atkins, Dorothy Knowles, Vicky Marshall, Divya Mehra, Sandra Meigs and Jane Ash Poitras.
Other artists include Risa Horowitz, Maria Hupfield, Eleanor King, Meryl McMaster and Monica Tap.
"These new works are part of a broader commitment to incorporate works which illuminate Canada’s diversity, both with regards to genres of media and their artists’ backgrounds," said spokesperson Michelle Mahoney.
The exhibition called A New Light: Canadian Women Artists (pictured above), features 38 pieces in the art gallery at the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C.
The show was curated by the Embassy of Canada public affairs team, in collaboration with curators from the Scotiabank Fine Arts Collection, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Global Affairs Visual Art Collection.
