Where the Universe Sings: The Spiritual Journey of Lawren Harris, which will enjoy its world premiere at Vancouver International Film Festival. This visually stunning portrait of a pioneering Group of Seven painter by Toronto’s White Pine Pictures will screen at Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas as part of VIFF Oct. 2 & Oct. 4.
“I'm searching for the summit of my soul, up there, where the universe sings,” words uttered by Harris that speak to his unfettered pursuit to capture the beauty of Canada’s landscapes. On this mission, Harris completed more than 130 radical and sublime interpretations of the country’s natural wonders. All are featured alongside real footage of these cross-country scenes in the White Pine Pictures’ biopic.
Where the Universe Sings interviews top experts, a few of whom include actor/comedian Steve Martin, who recently curated an exhibit dedicated to Harris for the Ontario Art Gallery, the Vancouver Art Gallery's Ian Thom, and curator and former Globe & Mail art critic Sarah Milroy.
Harris’ own grandson, Vancouverite Stew Sheppard, also appears in the film, and will attend the World Premiere on Oct. 2 alongside several other members of the Harris lineage.
