Eight artists have been awarded Governor General's Awards in the visual and media arts.
They are Newfoundland artist Marlene Creates; Ottawa photo-based storyteller Jeff Thomas; Toronto media artist Andrew James Paterson; Toronto artist Stephen Andrews; Toronto filmmaker Ali Kazimi; the Quebec duo known as Cozic; and Lee-Ann Martin, an independent curator in Ontario. Susan Edgerley, a glass artist from Quebec, is the Saidye Bronfman Award winner.

An exhibition of work by the winners will open March 28 at the National Gallery of Canada. It is on view until Aug. 5.
