Winnipeg’s Stephen Borys receives a Business/Arts Award
Stephen Borys, Pierre Lassonde and Owais Lightwala are among the recipients of the 2023 Business/Arts Awards for philanthropy, leadership and corporate investment in the arts, which are to be awarded Oct. 16 at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.
Borys, director of the Winnipeg Art Gallery, is receiving the Peter Herrndorf Arts Leadership Award for establishing Qaumajuq, Canada's new Inuit art centre in Winnipeg
Lassonde, chair emeritus of Franco-Nevada and former chair of the Canada Council for the Arts, is receiving the Edmund C. Bovey Award for his philanthropy, including a $25 million donation to establish a new waterfront art trail in Toronto.
Lightwala, an academic at Toronto Metropolitan University and a creative producer, is receiving the Arnold Edinborough Award for championing partnerships, innovation, and inclusion in the arts.
BC Museums Association and Forager Education are jointly receiving the Community Impact Award for the creation of The VR Voyage Classroom. This virtual platform seamlessly connects educators with cultural organizations, streamlining access to arts-based resources and programming.
Power Corporation of Canada is receiving the Corporate Champion of the Arts Award for supporting more than 122 arts and culture organizations across Canada.
