Winnipeg Art Gallery Adds Two Indigenous Positions
The Winnipeg Art Gallery has hired Lisa Charleyboy as manager of Indigenous initiatives and Jocelyn Piirainen as assistant curator of Inuit art.
Both positions are supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action.
Charleyboy is a member of the Tsilhqot’in Nation and has worked in the Indigenous arts community since 2006. Her background in communications includes broadcasting experience with CBC and City TV. She has edited the lifestyle publication Urban Native Magazine and created the documentary series Urban Native Girl for APTN. She holds an MBA in aboriginal business and leadership from Simon Fraser University.
Piirainen is an Inuk coming from Ottawa with a background in curation, filmmaking and programming. She has curated exhibitions at SAW Gallery and the Art Gallery of Ontario. Her writing has been published in Canadian Geographic and is forthcoming in Canadian Art.
