Winnipeg's Platform Awards Photography Prizes
Winnipeg's Platform Centre has awarded $2,000 photography prizes to emerging artists Jean Borbridge, Christina Hajjar and Iyunade Judah.
The award supports the creation of new work, and includes a full year of darkroom access and a one-year Platform membership. This new work will debut January in three individual solo exhibitions.
Jean Borbridge, a multimedia artist in Winnipeg, completed her BFA in 2018 at the University of Manitoba. She has exhibited and curated shows in various artist-run centres in Winnipeg, and has exhibited at Art Mur in Montreal and at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
Christina Hajjar is a queer femme first-generation Lebanese-Canadian artist, writer, and organizer. She is passionate about collaboration and cultural production as tools of community-building and resistance. Hajjar is a co-founder of Carnation, publishing artwork and writing on displacement and diaspora.
Iyunade Judah is a Winnipeg-based artist originally from Nigeria. His work focuses on the black experience from an African’s point of view in the diaspora. He has worked on a number of photo projects and short films on black masculinity, gender and afrocentrism.
