Writing Contest for Emerging Arts Writers

The Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge, in partnership with Calgary-based Galleries West magazine, has launched its annual contest for emerging art writers.

The deadline for submissions, which can include critical essays, exhibition reviews, creative writing, photo essays and experimental formats, is June 2.

Winners in each of the contest’s two categories, one specifically for BIPOC writers, receive a $1,000 honorarium, a two-week residency at the Gushul Studio Writer's Cottage in Blairmore, Alta., and a $250 travel stipend.

Winners will be announced in August, with an online reception to follow in September. 

The contest is open to emerging writers 18 or older living in Canada, regardless of citizenship status, as well as Canadians living abroad,
